The Batman is one of DC’s newest films whose release in March was very successful. Although not part of the DCEU cinematic universe, fans don’t seem to care much about it. They still come to the cinema to watch the appearance of Robert Pattionson along with other cast members in the latest The Dark Knight film. Financially, the film directed by Matt Reeves has even earned revenues of 770 million dollars from around the world.
Not long after its release, actually Warner Bros. had announced plans for a sequel to The Batman by bringing back Reeves and Pattinson. Even so, because recently WB plans to overhaul the DC Universe, not a few fans are worried about the fate of the sequel film. Moreover, WB has just canceled the DCEU film Batgirl which had actually finished shooting.
The Batman 2 Hasn’t Got The Green Light
According to a recent report from Variety, it’s been reported that Warner Bros. still has not given the green light for the production of The Batman 2. This could happen because of a shift in strategy that the studio had to take for the survival of the DC live action cinematic universe. This latest report regarding the uncertainty of the fate of The Batman 2 is quite contradictory to the previous news.
Previously, Umberto Gonzalez of The Wrap had said on Twitter Spaces that there was no reason for WB to cancel the sequel project. “The first film was very successful, so I’m pretty sure that they’ll let Reeves do the [The Batman] trilogy. Batman in that universe will continue to move forward,” said Gonzalez.
In addition to the sequel to The Batman, Reeves actually also has plans to develop his Batverse with a number of spinoff series. One of them is a series that will focus on the character Oswald Cobblepot aka Penguin from actor Colin Farrell. However, with this massive strategy change, both the sequel and the spinoff series are still in a pretty risky position. We’ll see what happens next.
